My summer vacation had ended. We arrived at the Hainan airport at dusk, boarded an airport shuttle bus after some procedures and arrived at the tarmac a few minutes later.
The plane we were about to board, much to my surprise, was a Boeing-787-8, also known as the dream liner. It is one of the world's most advanced civil aircraft. It uses 20% less fuel than predecessor aircraft like the Boeing 767. It is the first airliner with an airframe made primarily of composite materials and extensive use of electrical systems. It is distinguished by its four-window cockpit, raked wingtips, and noise-reducing chevrons on its engine nacelles. It wasn't my first time on a Boe-787, but I was surprised to see such an aircraft with such a long cruising range flying domestic routes. Anyway, I boarded the plane and stepped into the bright and spacious cabin of this wide-body jet. The hatch doors were closed with a thud shortly after all of the passengers boarded, and the plane taxied onto the runway.
The first hour and a half went by with no noteworthy incidents. The Build-in radio then cracked, and the crew announced that the plane would land in less than 40 minutes. The plane, however, did not. Outside the porthole, Chong Qing is engulfed in thick thunder clouds .Lightning strikes through the cloud, illuminating the sky with pale light. The plane circled the city for more than an hour, waiting for the cloud to clear out. The cloud, however, did not. When we thought the plane would reroute to another airport, it dived into the dense ink dark cloud. We were about to land in severe weather! But I wasn't too worry. This plane was one of the most intricately designed machines in the world. The plane crashed into a sea of clouds. The plane began to tremble immediately. A deafening boom rang out, a thin line of dazzling lightning ripped through the air in front of my eyes. As we descended further, the plane trembled even more violently. I thought I could even hear the joggle of machineries all around me. The plane then plummeted as a powerful flow of air struck the cabin's roof. Everyone in the plane yelled, and some mumbled, why shouldn't the plane land somewhere else. I couldn't even speak because I was so terrified. After what seemed like centuries, the drop abruptly came to a halt, and we were thrown back into our seats by gravity. I felt like I was on a roller coaster thousands of feet up in the sky .
Suddenly, I was able to see the fog covered twinkle of the city below. We had finally descended through the terrifying storm cloud. After a few moments, the plane landed with a deep hum at Chong Qing airport...
This experience must have sharpened my grit. At least, I won’t be afraid of normal flights any more. I had been involved into a severe one.
